North Norfolk is rightly famous for its countryside and coast, of great interest to bird watchers, cyclists, walkers and sailors alike. Titchwell Bird Reserve is only a few minuites away, Pensthorpe is half an hour's drive. There is all of the coastal path to explore, mainly through designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and some of the most clean and beautiful beaches in the UK. The many small fishing villages to larger towns along the coast all have their own individual characters and points of interest, such as Burnham Thorpe, birth place of Lord Nelson, boat trips to see the seals from Blakeney, watching the practice lifeboat launches from Wells with its picturesque beach huts, Holkham Hall and its beach, often used as a film venue, to name but a few.

The beaches along the coast are as long as they are numerous and you can walk for miles, occasionally along a sea wall or you may choose the more muddy option of the salt marsh. This coast is tidal and knowledge of tide times is crucial, care should be taken at all  times. Just walking a short distance from a beach entrance can take you away from anyone for solitude and peace. Even in winter walking along the beach is dramatic as well as bracing.

There are so many local pubs and inns available for food and refreshment that every taste is catered for, from a ploughman's for lunch to fine dining in the evening. In Brancaster Staithe there is a local pub, a small friendly cafe (reknown for breakfast) and a small hotel and restaurant (with allegedly the best sea view in the village).

Sailing is another of the main activities in some of the coastal villages and towns. Brancaster Staithe has its own small harbour. The local sailing school offers taster sailing courses together with advanced courses for the more experienced sailor, all recognised by the RYA. Local fisherman still harvest mussels and oysters in the harbour, some of which are delivered to London restaurants very early in the morning, luckily others are found in the local restaurants when in season.
